Arenal Coffee and Chocolate Tour

This comprehensive dining experience explores two of Costa Rica’s most iconic agricultural products: specialty coffee and artisanal chocolate. The family farm that hosts this tour has for generations perfected organic farming and artisanal processing techniques, maintaining traditional methods while incorporating sustainable innovations.
The coffee tour begins in shade-grown arabica coffee plantations, where participants learn about specific varieties, sustainable cultivation techniques, and the impact of volcanic terroir on coffee flavor. Visitors participate in the manual harvesting of ripe cherries, pulping, fermentation, sun drying, and roasting in small batches.

The chocolate experience includes exploration of organic cacao plantations, where trees grow in harmony with other tropical species creating a biodiverse agroforestry system. Participants learn about natural pollination, fermentation techniques that develop complex flavors, and traditional processing methods using ancestral tools.
The tastings include multiple preparations of coffee (espresso, pour-over, cold brew) and chocolate (ceremonial drink, bars with different percentages of cocoa, artisanal truffles). The expert tasters explain flavour profiles, pairing techniques, and the influence of environmental factors on the organoleptic characteristics of both products.
